Skeleton Coast Camp lies within the Skeleton Coast Park, Namibia, in a 16 400kmē private concession of wild, desolate and stunningly beautiful scenery. This area in northwestern Namibia has soaring sand dunes, steep canyons, mountains, salt pans, seal colonies and shipwrecks.
Freshwater springs permeate the barren sands and create a rare oasis in the Namib Desert, which sustains pockets of African wildlife. Springbok, Gemsbok, rare Desert Elephant, Brown Hyena, Jackal, Ostrich, Porcupine, Mountain Zebra and even Giraffe and occasionally Lion and Cheetah are seen.
Himba people are the nomadic inhabitants of the region living just outside the park, and it is a rare pleasure to be able to interact with these beautiful people and learn about their unique culture.
The Benguela current brings plankton rich waters from the Antarctic and cool water to the Skeleton Coast in Namibia. The cool Atlantic Ocean breeze meets the warm Namib Desert air and moderates the temperature so that even the summers are mild. Nearly every morning mists cover the coastal belt, bringing life-sustaining moisture to the desert's flora and fauna.
